Week 5 Critique

Feedback & Critique

feed back from tutors and the class was very positive, the circuit worked well and gave the right amount of vibration to alert passengers but not be annoying. the story board and the miniature bus were clear to the class and helped get the idea across. some things that need to be considered for the final product are...

 - What would the switch (on the seat) actually look like?
         - needs to noticeable and clear to the public
         - could be a touch button
         - how would the button be turned off after the previous person had left

 - good example of a storyboard
         - needs a sectional view of how the circuit would fit into the seat
         - needs some small captions on the slides just to explain whats going on

- how would the circuit fit into the world
        - London underground
        - subway
        - trains

Circuit Mock up

This is us making the first prototype of our circuit. we have a battery connected to a magnetic switch that activates a vibrating motor (which we took out of a childs toy), the whole circuit can be activated and deactivated with another switch (which would be on the back of the seat)

Story Board

This is our inital story board that we took to our week 5 critique session

Refining Ideas

after some feedback in class we decided we need to choose one specific aspect of the many ideas we had. we decided to go with a vibrating bus seat to alert passengers when a stop is coming up. we are going to do this with a magnetic switch and a vibrating motor.

Solutions to Bus problems

Ideas for project

 Adjustable light

-  long cylinder shape
-  touch activated
-  able to be lit up in various places depending on touch
-  useful for multiple angles of light

Eftpos Machine

-  redesign eftpos machine to be more consistant and easy to follow in all situations

Redesign aspects of public Buses

-  Change location of stop buttons to make them easier to find
-  solve problem: bus driver lets people on the bus despite it already being full (bus driver soesnt know how many people are on board)
-  people dont know where the bus stops are and when to push the button
-  trying to get out of a full bus can be awkward

Big Red Button Haptic interfaces

Successful - Towel/Wipe Dispenser at Jetts

At Jetts Gym in Mt Cook in every main exorcise area there are paper towel dispensers activated my waving your hand over the sensor on the front. its successful because its simple to use and icons and graphics tell you what is required to make to machine work.

Unsuccessful - Fingerprint scanner Clock in at PMKRS

Where i work (Placemakers) we clock in using a fingerprint scanner, although very self explanatory on what to do, it only reads your print about half the time and can sometimes take far to long to tell you weather your print is accepted or not. its a frustrating process to go through twice a day, especially if a few people need to use it at the same time.
