Video and notes

The idea is that as a bus stop approaches the passenger will be altered (if they wish) with enough time to decide if its the stop they want and push the stop button if need be. its helpful for people who are unsure of where the stops are and allows people to drift off without missing their stop.

The alert will be GPS activated, when the bus is 50m away from its next stop a vibrating motor in the seat will alert the passenger. GPS is a good solution because it allows for interchangeability as buses sometimes change routes, or in case the routes themselves change.

The button to allow this alert to happen will be touch activated with red and green color coding for on and off, with a small graphic to inform new passengers what it is.

The button is automatically switched off via a pressure sensor in the seat when the previous passenger gets off so that people don't get caught off guard.

This concept can be used internationally in any public transport situation such as buses, trams, trains, subways etc.

Week 5 Critique

Feedback & Critique

feed back from tutors and the class was very positive, the circuit worked well and gave the right amount of vibration to alert passengers but not be annoying. the story board and the miniature bus were clear to the class and helped get the idea across. some things that need to be considered for the final product are...

 - What would the switch (on the seat) actually look like?
         - needs to noticeable and clear to the public
         - could be a touch button
         - how would the button be turned off after the previous person had left

 - good example of a storyboard
         - needs a sectional view of how the circuit would fit into the seat
         - needs some small captions on the slides just to explain whats going on

- how would the circuit fit into the world
        - London underground
        - subway
        - trains

Circuit Mock up

This is us making the first prototype of our circuit. we have a battery connected to a magnetic switch that activates a vibrating motor (which we took out of a childs toy), the whole circuit can be activated and deactivated with another switch (which would be on the back of the seat)

Story Board

This is our inital story board that we took to our week 5 critique session

Refining Ideas

after some feedback in class we decided we need to choose one specific aspect of the many ideas we had. we decided to go with a vibrating bus seat to alert passengers when a stop is coming up. we are going to do this with a magnetic switch and a vibrating motor.

Solutions to Bus problems

Ideas for project

 Adjustable light

-  long cylinder shape
-  touch activated
-  able to be lit up in various places depending on touch
-  useful for multiple angles of light

Eftpos Machine

-  redesign eftpos machine to be more consistant and easy to follow in all situations

Redesign aspects of public Buses

-  Change location of stop buttons to make them easier to find
-  solve problem: bus driver lets people on the bus despite it already being full (bus driver soesnt know how many people are on board)
-  people dont know where the bus stops are and when to push the button
-  trying to get out of a full bus can be awkward

Big Red Button Haptic interfaces

Successful - Towel/Wipe Dispenser at Jetts

At Jetts Gym in Mt Cook in every main exorcise area there are paper towel dispensers activated my waving your hand over the sensor on the front. its successful because its simple to use and icons and graphics tell you what is required to make to machine work.

(Image Taken from Internet)

Unsuccessful - Fingerprint scanner Clock in at PMKRS

Where i work (Placemakers) we clock in using a fingerprint scanner, although very self explanatory on what to do, it only reads your print about half the time and can sometimes take far to long to tell you weather your print is accepted or not. its a frustrating process to go through twice a day, especially if a few people need to use it at the same time.

Process and work delegation:

- we all came up with a few ideas each abd choose mine to develop
(Lucas, Azrielle, Felicity)

- we all sat down together and thought it out, what it would involve what the point was etc
(Lucas, Azrielle, Felicity)

- after discussion with tutors and each other we decided to go home and rethink the initial paper prototype, and regroup or ideas next class
(Lucas, Azrielle, Felicity)

- we all made our own mock ups based on our paper prototype, so we could all get our head around InDesign
(Lucas, Azrielle, Felicity)

- we all Decided that my mock up was the most successful and we developed it further.
(Lucas, Azrielle, Felicity)

- I went home and remade the mock up, more completed with some extra features we discussed in class
(lucas)

- Azrielle designed the appearance of the design, colours etc as well as proportions and hierarchy
(azrielle)

- group meeting to discuss what was working and what need adjusting
(Lucas, Azrielle, Felicity)

- produced and last minute tune ups

video of me using the site.

we took in and discussed the feedback we received from our class interaction exercise, we used all our best ideas including azrielles design based on the appearance. I used InDesign and produced our final website. our TV on demand website, called E- Lemon (from our team name) has a strong focus on accessing the large amount of information that a website like this has to offer. we tried to make it as easy ass possible to find and watch a specific episode as quickly as possible, and also limit the amount of windows that one has to click through to et to the page they want.

a big problem we identified with similar websites in existence was getting to an episode is far to difficult and once there can be difficult to backtrack and or find the next episode. our solution to this included tabs down the left hand side of the page enabling the user to quickly flick back to the list of episodes and seasons. also we have put the next and previous episodes below the viewing screen so watching the next one is a simple click away, or the loop button with automatically play the next one for you.

we have included am optional sign in button which will enable users to subscribe to shows and create playlists and receive recommended shows based on what they watch.

we took our initial mock up to class for feedback from the class.

issues identified by the class were...
- genre selection and search bar
- rating system and comment system
- episode and season select
- landing page

- the genre/search bar was a little confusing due to the search button being next to the genre select and not next the search bar. this was initially to use the genres as search limitations or boundaries.
because this looked confusing we decided to change the concept so that clicking a genre will display the top rated shows of that particular genre, and the search button has been moved next the search bar.

- is the comments section really necessary?
although we discussed this and it was decided that people really like to post comment on videos, we decided to swap the comment section for a rating system. which would make sense because we have top rated shows.

- the landing page was identified to be the biggest issue, as it launched straight into needing to search to actually show something.
we had discussed a welcome page, which would display the website logo and search bar nice and big and perhaps the top rated shows. after the feedback we received we decided that it would be best to include it.

after meeting with felicity and azrielle we looked over each others designs and takes on our paper designs. we drew ideas from all from all of them, using largely my own layout with elements of felicity's design including the season to episode flow and the idea she had of having the top 5 rated shoes link bar change to more episodes of the show you are currently watching.

Sunday, 23 March 2014

While in class we had a small tutorial on how to make an interactive PDF followed by a play around ourselves. after class I went home a spent roughly 6.5 hours producing an ugly looking complete working mock up of our TV on demand website. I believe felicity will have a go as well and azzy is working on the appearance of the website so that things like hierarchy of information and proportions are correct. we all planning on meeting on Wednesday afternoon so between the 3 of us hopefully we can put our work together and get something decent.

Thursday, 20 March 2014

I have redesigned the website after the critique in class. I have made the overall user experience more visual as this is a TV based website. I have also included a top 10 bar the stays constant so users have a quick way of finding shows they might like. I am taking this to class to show the group and get their feedback, and also discuss what they have come up with in the last week.

Friday, 14 March 2014

This is the paper prototype of the TV on demand website we were developing in class. the design still needs some work, in particular the list menu idea needs to change and the hierarchy of information needs to be altered .

due to TV on demand becoming increasingly popular I thought about developing an online TV
website as i think the current ones arn't up to scratch.
